Vet Procedures


Dr. Curtis Mercury, DVM

Pictured above is our vet, Dr. Mercury. He will preform all procedures on each horse. He is assisted by me.


Examinations

General Exam
Description: This exam must be done yearly. Dr. Mercury performs this procedure. He will check your horses overall health. This includes taking your horses vitals (pulse, heartrate, etc), feeling its legs, checking its hooves, etc.
Price: $15.00/horse

Foal Exam
Description: This exam must be done before your foals first birthday. Dr. Mercury will check your foals vitals, etc. It is basically the same procedure as the general exam.
Price: $10.00/foal

Pregnancy Exam
Description: Dr. Mercury will exam your in foal mare. This exam consists of taking an ultrasound of your foal. You, the owner, will be able to listen to the in utero foals heartbeat and you will even be able to see it move! If something is wrong, Dr. Mercury will tell you.
Price: $20.00/mare

Senior Horse Exam
Description: This exam is for the older horse in your life, anything above 15 years. This exam should be done yearly. Dr. Mercury will check for signs of lameness, arthritis, etc. He will also draw blood and check your horses hooves. If anything is wrong, Dr. Mercury will let you know.
Price: $15.00/horse

Dental Exam
Description: Dr. Mercury also specializes in equine dentistry. He went to school for two more additional years to learn about equine dentistry. He will exam your horses mouth and float its teeth. This should be done every six months to ensure healthy teeth.

Vaccinations

Foal Vaccinations
Description: Dr. Mercury will administor these diesease vaccines: Influenza, Encephalomyelitis, Tetanus, Rabies, Strangles, Potomac Horse Fever, Botulism, Equine Herpes Virus (Rhinopneumonitis), & Equine Viral Arteritis. It is reccomeded that you vaccinate at 6 months of age and at 1 year of age.

Adult Vaccinations
Description: Dr. Mercury will administor these diesease vaccines: Influenza, Equine Herpes (Rhinopneumonitis), Encephalomyelitis, Tetanus, Rabies, Strangles, Potomac Horse Fever, Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis, Botulism, & Rotavirus. It is reccomeded that you vaccinate twice a year.

Pregnancy Vaccinations
Description: Dr. Mercury will administor these diesease vaccines during your mares pregnancy: Influenza, Equine Herpes (Rhinopneumonitis), Encephalomyelitis, Tetanus, Rabies, Strangles, Potomac Horse Fever, Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis, Botulism, & Rotavirus.

Surgical Procedures

Castration
Description: A fancy word for gelding your stallion.
Price: $125

Spaying
Description: If you choose this procedure, the vet will remove your mares uterus and she will no longer be able to reproduce.
Price: $200

Euthansia
Description: Your horse is humanely put to sleep.
Price: $300

Autopsy
Description: If your horse died of unexplainable reasons, this option will let you know how your horse died by disecting it. The vet will examine its organs, organ systems, etc and tell you what the cause of death is.
Price: $250

Radiograph (X-Ray)
Description: If you think something is wrong with one of your horses legs, or one of its bones or bone in general, the doctor will take a x-ray to see what the exact problem is.
Price: $200

Sugery
Description: If the doctor found something wrong on your horses radiograph, he may suggest sugery to fix your horses problem.
Price: Depends on type of injury


Other Procedures

De-Worming
Description: This paste will get rid of any type of worm that your horse may have contracted. It is given orally and should be given every three months. We can administer it here, or we will give you a paste and you can administer it at home.
Price: $10.00

Sheath or Udder Cleaning
Description: We will clean your stallion or geldings sheath and your mares udders with a specially pH balanced soap. It will remove accumulated dirt and body oils from horse's sheath or mare's udder.
Price: $15.00

Coggins Test
Description: The Coggins test checks for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) antibodies in the horse's blood. The vet will draw blood and the blood will be sent to our lab. This test MUST be done every year, especially if you show your horse and have to transport it across state or providence lines. The vet will let you know if the test comes back negative or positive.

Semen Collection
Description: Dr. Mercury will collect semen from your stallion for the purpose of artificial insemination. A phantom mare and AV (artificial vagina) is used in the collection process. Semen collection is great for stallions who are too old, injured, or are too busy competing to do a live cover. You get ten stems from one collection session which will then be frozen and kept in our labratory. RACING STALLIONS SUBMITTED WILL BE REJECTED.
Price: $1000/per session

Artificial Insemination
Description: Dr. Mercury will artificially insemenate your mare with your stallions chilled semen or another stallions chilled semen. AI is great for those mare owners who do not live close to their selected sire. Dr. Mercury will also ship out semen if need be. Please make sure your mare is showing signs of being in heat before making an appointment.
